The trip up the Jade Green Mountains, just west of Dali, took place on the first rainy day since arriving in Yunnan.  No problem, as the clouds made the mountains even more memorable.

At the end of the gondola ride to the top of the mountain range, women in traditional dress went about their business, as the oncoming rain kept tourists to a minimum this day.  A strong rainstorm at the top kept me stranded in a small tent cafe for an hour.  Storms take place regularly on top, as the mountains catch the clouds crawling over them before they can proceed on to Dali.

The view east toward Dali from nearly 5,000 meters elevation, above the clouds.  A hiking trail runs along the mountaintops for miles in either direction along the ridge, but this was not the day to try it out.

Another of the local minority people near the top of the Jade Green Mountains, with a wonderful face that has seen it all.  One of my favorite pictures from the trip.

Rain clouds pass over Dali during the gondola ride back down the mountain.

The rain drenched the terraced fields on the mountainside while I was at the top.  Just hours later, the clouds were gone and it became a beautiful evening in Dali.
