Western “hills”?  This sheer cliffside near the Dragon’s Gate temple, with the lake below, looks like a perfect setting for a traditional Chinese painting.

Watch that first step; you’ll either go through the roof of one of the resorts below, or land in some seriously murky green water...

The Dragon’s Gate, a Buddhist temple carved right out of the side of the mountain.  Nearly 200 years old, the temple took over 50 years to create.

Nothing historic about this building, which covers a gift shop, but it does look great with the surroundings.

The view northeast from the Dragon’s Gate.

A colorful display of women’s dresses and tops, most definitely not worn by the locals.

This lovely bamboo garden appears in another temple just minutes away, about halfway down the mountain.

Another beautiful traditional Chinese garden in yet another temple near the foot of the mountain.  This temple complex is a very peaceful place; the gardens are spread across a number of acres with almost no one around.
